Medical Checkup

MEDICAL SCREENING REQUIREMENT

Medical screening is a health check that consists of a general examination by the examining doctor, blood and urine tests as well as a chest x-ray examination. It is a mandatory requirement from the Government of Malaysia to protect the health of Malaysian residents and to reduce the potential burden on the public health service in Malaysia. The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has laid down criteria for the assessment of the health condition of international students which must be complied with.

PRE ARRIVAL MEDICAL SCREENING

A pre arrival medical examination is a series of medical tests required to be performed by students prior to arrival at Malaysia. This test is needed as a means to ensure that the students are fit to study in Malaysia. All students applying for a student pass must undergo a medical screening while still in their home country. However, for those students already in Malaysia, they are permitted to undergo medical screening in Malaysia.

  • Blood and urine tests
    • There are some restrictions in certain countries (particularly in the Middle East) with conducting some of the required medical tests. Students facing this issue must obtain a letter from their doctor confirming the unavailability of these tests, and fill in the Declaration of Health Status form (to be requested from UMP International Office).
  • Vaccinations
    • International students are also required to take the vaccines listed in the Health Examination Form. Please produce the certificate of vaccinations for VAL application purposes.
    • Please note that a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required from all International Students coming from or transited more than 12 hours through countries with risk of Yellow Fever transmission.

POST ARRIVAL MEDICAL SCREENING

In addition, a Post arrival medical examination is mandatory for international students within 7 days from your date of entry into Malaysia. The examining doctor shall assess and conclude whether or not you are suitable to remain in Malaysia based on MOHE criteria. . This is a mandatory process and failing to complete this check may result in the cancellation of your visa.
